Professional Tips When Shopping For Turf Online

Purchasing artificial grass online can be overwhelming if you don't know where to begin. With the hundreds of options to choose from, how will you know what to buy? Keep reading to learn some helpful tips from a professional turf installer for when you're browsing turf for sale online.

Shop by Intended Use

While transitioning from a natural lawn to artificial has many benefits, it's important for your overall satisfaction that you purchase a synthetic grass that will best meet your needs. While many initially look for a soft and plush grass, these types are not best suited for areas with high foot traffic or where pets are at play. Understanding your specific needs will help you narrow down your search! We make it even easier for you by categorizing all of our artificial grasses by intended use, such as pet turf, turf for balconies & rooftops, sports turf, etc. Check out our Online Turf Store to start browsing!

Always Order Samples

To ensure the artificial grass you order online is high quality, make sure you order samples and can see the product in person before making the final purchase. It's important to know how to spot low-quality materials, because often turf ordered in bulk is non-refundable. Once you order turf samples and have them in hand, make sure the backing of the grass consists of multiple layers and is durable. If you can pull apart the layers of the backing this is a red flag.

Seeing the product in person will also assist in comparing grasses. We'd recommend laying the samples down and standing back to see them from a perspective about 10 ft. away. This is when you'll really see the differences in texture, height, and color.

Measure Multiple Times

When DIY'ing Artificial Turf Installation, you can run into some problems if your measurements are off. We've seen it time and time again with our clients, they either come up short with their measurements and order too little, or order way more than needed and are stuck with the leftovers. As we mentioned above, artificial grass is typically non-refundable so it's important to get the measurements right the first time. Buying too little artificial grass will cause you more of a hassle with cuts and seaming. Also, because turf is manufactured in rolls that are 15 ft. wide, you'll probably end up forced to buy a much larger piece than needed to complete the project. For this reason, we recommend purchasing 1 ft. over overlap on the ends to provide yourself a buffer.

Consult a Professional

Before purchasing your artificial turf materials online, we'd recommend speaking with a professional installer. They'll be able to recommend the best way to purchase your turf and advise on any turf accessories and other materials needed for your specific installation. This is especially important when you're installing it yourself to make sure that the installation is done right the first time.

Research the Warranty

It's very important to know what you're buying, especially online. Purchasing artificial grass can be a big investment, but also long-lasting if you buy the right materials. Research the company you're buying artificial grass from. Reference reviews to make sure they're a reputable retailer. Ensure they partner with only trusted manufacturers that offer warranties on their artificial grass materials. Typical warranties on high-quality turf spans anywhere from 8-15 years. While most warranties only cover defects in the product itself and exclude damage from outside factors such as weather, foot traffic, and spills, this can save you on a costly repair in the long run. If a manufacturer isn't offering a warranty on their product.....run!

Opt-In For Curbside Delivery

Many underestimate how heavy synthetic grass is when it's bought in bulk. Because the rolls are 15 ft. wide, you'll need at least 3 people to load/unload the product. Also, a large truck will be needed for transport. For this reason, we'd recommend always opting in for delivery when offered. This will save time and hassle. Remember though this will be delivered curbside, so plan manpower ahead of time to haul the artificial grass onto your property.
